Teaching Elder: Tony De La Rosa
Luis Antonio (“Tony”) De La Rosa is the former Interim Executive Presbyter of the Presbytery of New York City, where he led a staff of employees, clergy members and congregations comprising more than 14,500 members.
A lifelong Presbyterian, Tony is the former Clerk of Session at Immanuel Presbyterian Church of Los Angeles, and he has volunteered for over 20 years on various General Assembly-level entities, including the Advisory Committee on Litigation (as a charter member), the Special Committee on Church-wide Compensation Policy Guidelines, and more recently on the Special Committee to Study Issues of Civil Union and Christian Marriage that reported to the 219th General Assembly in 2010.
In addition to his work with the Presbyterian church, Tony served for 10 years with L.A. Care Health Plan, first as a departmental administrator and then as Associate Counsel. From 1991 to 1999.
Tony received his Bachelor of Arts, Master of Divinity and Juris Doctor degrees from Yale University. He comes to Newport Presbyterian Church from Los Angeles, where he resides with his partner of seven years, Michael P. Bendgen.
Associate Pastor: Janet DeWater
A native of New Jersey, Janet DeWater has called the northwest home since 1988. A graduate of San Francisco Theological Seminary, she served First Presbyterian Church in Everett before coming to Newport as the Director of Children’s Ministries in 2002. In 2009 she was called to serve as Associate Pastor at Newport. Her responsibilities include worship, children’s and family ministries, oversight of the youth program, and general pastoral duties. She and her husband John, enjoy supporting their children’s activities, (Paul is a student at Seattle University and Nora is at Redmond High School), working on their home and yard, gathering with family and friends, and every once in a while, the cherished opportunity to relax and read!

Michele is in her final year of seminary training at the Seattle School of Theology & Psychology, an ATS-accredited graduate institution that teaches at the intersection of text, soul, and culture in order to prepare integrated persons for service in the arts, the nonprofit world, the church body, and counseling psychology. Michele is passionate about the creative arts, especially storytelling and poetry. She is particularly excited about how the creative arts and the life of the church intersect, and the rich ways the two can inform one another. She will graduate with her Master of Divinity in June 2015 from the Seattle School. Michele is a candidate for ordained ministry in the PC (USA) and under care with the Presbytery of Seattle.
Jennifer Greene, Interim Music Director/Pianist/Organist
A lifelong church musician, Jennifer is blessed to have inherited her family’s legacy of ministry through music. As pianist, organist, and/or music director, she served a breadth of congregations before coming to Newport, including First Christian Church – Disciples of Christ (Tacoma, WA); First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church (Taunton, MA); Northminster Presbyterian Church (Chattanooga, TN); St. Thaddaeus’ Episcopal Church (Chattanooga, TN); Mizpah Congregation (Chattanooga, TN); and Midway United Methodist Church (Cumming, GA), among others.
Jennifer’s musical roots source a wide variety of genres including classical, gospel, jazz, contemporary, and improvisation. She is a graduate of Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts (MA, Music Therapy) and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (BA, Piano Performance). In addition to church ministry, she is a national board-certified music therapist and plays acoustic guitar and Celtic harp in service to patients on hospice as well as elders and adults with disabilities.
